PCI Express

PCI Express is officially abbreviated as PCIe, and is a computer expansion card designed to replace the older PCI, PCI-X, and AGP bus standards. PCIe has numerous advantages over the older bus standards, including higher maximum system bus throughput, lower I/O pin count and a smaller physical footprint. Along with better performance-scaling for bus devices, a more detailed error detection and reporting mechanism, and native hot plug functionality. Newer revisions of the PCIe also support hardware I/O virtualization
